Official land tests NFV ballast water treatment system OPS successfully completed
The first part of the certification process for the NFV ballast water treatment system OPS was successfully completed in June 2009. MAHLE Industriefiltration GmbH passed the official land tests at the Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ) with outstanding results.
Following a five-year development and test phase under the most challenging conditions in the NIOZ harbour (Fig. 2 and 3), the OPS container-housed unit (Fig. 1) decisively attained the D-2 standard as required by the IMO (International Maritime Organization). In so doing, OPS system impressively demonstrated its biological effectiveness and technical maturity.
MAHLE Industriefiltration GmbH may now optimistically take on the second part of the certification process - the sea test. For this, the NFV ballast water treatment system OPS is installed and officially tested on board a ship. The sea vessel suitability of the unit will be evaluated during a trial period of six months. Type-approval for the NFV ballast water treatment system OPS is expected in early 2010.
